Vernon Tri-Monsters head coach Laura Medcalf was the second overall female finisher in the Kamloops Triathlon Family Festival last weekend.
Medcalf, who is the Zone 2 head coach for the BC Summer Games, July 21-24, in Abbotsford, won the female 30-39 age group.
Peter Byrnes placed fourth overall and topped the men’s 50-59 division, while Tri Monsters assistant coach and TriBC official Paul Filippi ruled the men’s 60+.
Liz Ariano, who is the Tri Monsters Cycling coach, won the female 50-59 title, while Mark Wehner was third in men’s 30-39 and Adam Bugera – sponsored by Randy Wilson, Sun Life Financial – finished fifth overall.
Vernon athletes went hard in the B.C. Summer Games Qualifier race (14-15-year-olds( which was a very field deep with loads of talent.
Braden Kersey – supported by North Okanagan Orthodonics – was second and qualified for one of three spots on the Zone team. Julian Hudson competed in his first triathlon.
On the girls side, Annika Ariano pulled out an amazing gritty run to hang onto the field after a wrong turn on the bike for sixth place.
In the Kids of Steel category, Brody Wright – backed by Paradigm Naturopathic Medicine – was second in male 12-13, while Jack Screen chased Wright most of the way to finish third.
Liam Greenan placed second in male 10-11, while Max Wright was third and Conrad Screen sixth.
The Tri Monsters are gearing up for the Paradigm Naturopathic Medicine Kids of Steel Triathlon at Kin Beach June 25.
