Moser-Reschreiter rules Peach Classic

Vernon’s Erica Moser-Reschreiter was the top female in the 31st Peach Classic Investors.ca Triathlon sprint distance race Sunday in Penticton.

It is the oldest running triathlon in the B.C. Interior having first started in 1983. The race included both Olympic and sprint distances (part of the B.C. Championships).

Moser-Reschreiter covered the sprint in one hour, 19 minutes and 16 seconds to finish 21st overall. She competes in the 40-44 class.

She finished the 750-metre swim in 13 minutes and 48 seconds, rode the 20-km bike in 40:54 and did the 5-km run in 23:06.

Robert Johnson of Chilliwack claimed the sprint title in 1:06:05, followed by Carsten Lapointe of Vancouver, in 1:08:34 and Sean Bell of West Kelowna, in 1:10:51.

Peter Byrnes of Coldstream was 12th overall, in 1:16:28, good for third in the 45-49 division. Alesha Miller was the second female overall and first in the 20-24 category, 16 seconds back of Moser-Reschreiter.

Paul Filippi of Vernon ended up 32nd, in 1:24:31, leaving him second in the 60-64 group.

Christa Miller of Vernon finished 44th overall and second in the 20-24 class, in 1:27:35, while Russ Miller of Vernon was 76th, in 1:37:51. He was seventh in the 55-59 division.

Vernon’s Chris Elliot placed 96th in 1:44:48, putting him seventh in the 25-29 class.

Jon Bird of Calgary won the Olympic distance race in 1:57:03.

Bruce Schoenne of Investors.ca and the Peach Classic Race Society put up a $5,000 prize to anyone topping the Olympic distance race record.

The race record is based on the last 30 years. The men’s record is 1:54.25 set by Stefan Jacobsen while the women’s record was set by Carol Montgomery in 2:04.25.

Andrew Russell of North Saanich, in 2:00:18, and Jeff Symonds of Penticton, in 2:03:31, rounded out the top-three. Sam Lazar of Armstrong placed 12th in 2:22:41, leaving him second in Male 35-39.

The fastest female was Jen Annett of Penticton, in 2:22:17.

Craig Jackson of Coldstream was 53rd in 2:48:17, while Danny Kermode of Vernon finished 64th in 2:51:45 and Myra Mattila of Vernon hit 100th in 3:05:40.
