Ginger Nickoli scored once and set up two others as Vernon Square Liquor Store VQA stuffed the Courtesy Motors Sistas 5-0 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Asociation Masters Division play Tuesday night at Marshall Field #5.

Carly Bibby buried a blast in the far upper left side for the winner, supported by Nickoli. Lindsay Smith made it 2-0 with a World Cup-like air ball as she moved up from the back line.

Carla Gibson added further insurance on a pretty bang-bang play with Nickoli before Nickoli connected with a beauty outside the corner sideline, assisted by Gibson.

Sue Barss recorded the shutout as VQA welcomed Sheila Westwell to her first game of the season.

Fred Laurison provided coaching support, while Jane Sutton and Teresa Collins provided feedback from their injured reserve lawnchairs. Fun-loving Shelly Johnston was chosen Most Sportsmanlike Player.

The Sistas happily welcomed newbie Sara Allfrey but that boost to their roster was not enough to overcome the swift offensive play of VQA.

Delinah Erbenich pulled the hat trick as Dr Lee Dental bottled up Rosters 7-1 at MacDonald Park.

Erbenich got her first of the night with Barb Levesque assisting. Irene Arrotta fed a beautiful through ball to the speedy Erin Scott to put Dr Lee up 2-0.

Scott converted again with Jacquie Hansen assisting. Sarah Green, who was, as always, solid on defence then set up Erbenich with a booming ball over the Rosters back four. Arrotta fed Hansen to put the floss crew up 5-0 before the recess.

Jenn Matsuda, who was a rock star at centre midfielder, started the final 45 minutes with an assist on a Hansen snipe.

The combination of Green and Erbenich capped the night giving Delinah her hat trick. Bobbi Cormier, Amanda Bolton, Green and Jenn Currie were dynamic on defence. Keeper Lisa Arrotta was fabulous.

Katie Reid replied for Rosters in the final minute. Keeper Brenda Keay was chosen Most Sportsmanlike Player by the winners.

The Vernon Chick Kickers are used to spouses and kids coming out to watch games but to have grandpa show up and take care of baby on the sidelines while his daughter plays is something special.

Jessica Tanner took full advantage of this moment and put on a show of talent and grit. Playing just her second game since giving birth 12 weeks ago to her son Rodger, Tanner assisted on the first three goals as the Chicks crushed the Controllers 5-1.

With bursts of speed through the middle and some fine ball control, Tanner delivered two beautiful crosses into the box to a waiting Mel Jacobs, the second seeing Jacobs chest the ball down to her feet and slotting it through the netting.

Jen Kemper then received a laser pass from Tanner to punch in her first of the night.

In the second half, the Kickers settled in to a rhythm and made the most of their chances. Kemper connected on a long shot that the Controllers goalie lost in the sun and Jacobs finished with panache for her third hat trick of the year.

Stellar defensive play came from the back line with Marilynn Vanderdeen leading the charge.

Tara Murray scored for the Controllers midway through the first half on a quick pass back from Angela Durfeld outside the 18, lobbing the ball over the keeper’s head just under the cross bar.

Fullbacks Val Percy and Michele Wernicke were steady in front of a solid Michele Embleton.

Elena Sookarow, Amy Shupe, and Christyna Whieldon were relentless all game working hard in the midfield and forward lines to create several great offensive opportunities for the Controllers.

Wanda Vanderveen was named the Controllers Most Sportsmanlike Player by the Chicks.

The Controllers voted Jacobs as Most Sportsmanlike after she showed class by backing off a 50-50 ball with Embleton.

Raegan Russell pocketed two goals as the Gray Monk/Longhorn Impact shut down the Shuswap Merlot 4-0 at MacDonald Park.

Char McNaught pounced on a deflected shot to register the opening goal before Russell went to work, Riverdancing around the Merlot defence twice. Alicia Mcreary completed the offence with a 20-yarder. The Impact got great hustle from Edeen Yamada and Alicia Mcreary. Derri Ann Cooper recorded the easy clean sheet.

Maddy Laranjo bagged a deuce as the Infonews.ca Newshounds remained undefeated with a 6-0 Division I victory over the AF Blazers at Marshall #4.

Aryana Jacura posted the goal of the night with a 30-yard corker bar down, while Alex Drury and Silken Smart also converted. The Blazers, who had just 10 players and lost another to injury, gave up one own goal. Ashley Charleton recorded the clean sheet, making a few clutch stops and getting help from her post.

Amber Murray of the Blazers was chosen Most Sportsmanlike Player.

Do It Drywall and the North Enderby Timber Celtic battled to a 1-1 draw in other Division 1 action at Marshall #1.

Playing the majority of the first half with nine players, NET’s Saige Woodliffe hammered home a loose ball from about 25 yards over outstretched keeper Jen Bailey.

With fatigue setting in, the tides turned as Do itt Drywall’s dynamic duo of Brittney Pepper and Jenn Kanester took control of the centre of the park. Pepper beat two Celtic players to find Kanester who rocketed a 35-yarder just under the cross bar to level the score.

With time dwindling down, the Celtics stayed strong, able to preserve the tie showing true grit and determination. Kendra Ostafie was a standout playing her first game on defence.

Lenai Schmidt turned in a spectacular effort on the Drywall back line, while Becky Summerfelt earned a shutout playing net the second 45.
