North Okanagan wins Novice gold

The North Okanagan Novice All-Stars bounced host Burnaby 8-1 in Sunday’s final of the Jack Crosby All-Star Lacrosse Tournament at Bill Copeland Arena.

Game MVP Waylen Stowards pulled the hat trick and Brandon Rypkema was in goal for North Okanagan, who carried sponsorship from Everton Ridge Homes. Stowards led the team with 12 tournament goals as North Okanagan won seven times in four days.

These kids worked really hard in every game,” said head coach and sponsor Jacob Kuiken. “It was exciting to watch how they started to gel as a team and how this continued to improve with every game that they played together. By the end of the tourney this team was definitely a force to be reckoned with.”

Kohen Pounder, who rang up 11 tourney goals, pocketed 2+2 for MVP as the Everton Homes crew dispatched Cowichan Valley 7-4 in the semifinals. Rypkema took the win.

Teigan Kelley registered 2+1 and Taylor Swanson went the distance in net as North Okanagan slammed Surrey 9-1 in the quarterfinals.

North Okanagan, who had 15 runners and two goalies, opened with a 10-2 swamping of Peninsula with David Calder (3), Kian Yargeau (2) and Pounder (2) earning MVP honours.

Blake Bell, who bagged a deuce, and Kobe Maltman and Kaiuss Dusel, who scored once each, took MVPs as Everton Homes grounded Burnaby 6-4.

Stowards and Tyrell Palm, each with a pair of goals, and Calder, with a single, were chosen MVPs as North Ok stuffed Sunshine Coast 9-1.

Palm, with a hat trick, and Pounder and Bell, with singles, drew MVP props as North Ok crushed Coquitlam 8-2 in their last preliminary tilt.

Calder collected nine tournament snipes, while Palm, Kelley and Kohl Hendrickson each had eight. Bell bagged seveb, while Yargeay abd Maltman each recorded five.

Chad Pounder and Brent Stowards were the assistant coaches.
