NOSL title up for grabs

The North Okanagan Soccer League title won’t be decided until the final night of the regular season

The North Okanagan Soccer League title won’t be decided until the final night of the regular season next Wednesday.

Turn-Key Controls of Vernon brushed back Courvas 3-2 Wednesday night at Salmon Arm Credit Union Savings Sports Centre in Salmon Arm, leaving them tied for the penthouse with idle North Enderby Timber, at 14-1-1.

The Controllers face the last-place Salmon Arm Outlaws, while NET takes on the Revelstoke Stallions to end the season. The Gibson Cup playoffs start Saturday, Aug. 27.

Kanwar Pandher jumpstarted the Turn-Key scoring early with a run on a through ball and solo effort down the left side with a low shot that found the corner of the Courvas net.

Turn-Key counter-attacked and Thomas Pool converted a sweet low shot to the corner to make it 2-0. With the half closing in, Turn-Key enjoyed more pressure and Pool swiped the ball, made a defender miss, and buried the 3-0 tally. Courvas connected on a fray in front of keeper Gregg Douma and then closed to within one off a brilliant strike top cheddar.

Courvas came down in numbers seeking the equalizer, but Douma turned the shot enough to hit the post and the rebound was shot over the net.

Peters Tirecraft dispatched the Outlaws 3-2 at Blackburn Park in Salmon Arm, improving to 6-10-1, their best record in several years.

Aman Singh sent a gorgeous floating feed over the Outlaw back line to Clark Richardson, who deked the keeper for a 1-0 Tirecraft lead at 10 minutes. Richardson made it 2-0 in the 20th minute after a low pass from his brother, Kyle.

Brock Reim added the winner at 35 minutes on a scramble. The Outlaws counted two quick ones by striker Sam McNie and midfielder Jeremy Hunt midway through the final 45.

Singh, who stepped up his passing game, took the Red Robin Man of the Match.
