The VSS Panthers will be shooting to win the 17th annual senior boys basketball Fulton Maroons Corporate Classic this afternoon (2:15 p.m.)

Glenn Garvie’s bunch go up against the Duchess Park Condors of Prince George in the final of the six-team tournament.

Leon Schenker rang up three shots from the Landing Plaza and finished with 20 points as the Panthers stung the South Okanagan Hornets of Oliver 68-55 Saturday afternoon. Jackson Ponipal canned 11 points and Bradley Hladik nine. The Buzz got eight treys and 31 points from Manjot Dhaliwal.

Brody Watts canned 17 points as VSS stopped the Similkameen Sparks of Keremeos 77-63 Friday afternoon. Charis Ondrik pocketed 14 points, while Hladik and Schenker each added 13 for the Panthers. Sasha Zebroff dialed long distance five times and finished with 22 points for the Sparks. VSS led 45-26 before going to their bench.

Duchess Park reached the final by knocking off Fulton 75-64 and holding off the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops in Friday games.

Colburn Pearce flushed 20 points, while Malcolm MacDonald drained 17 as the Condors upended the Maroons. Ike Olson counted 21 points, while Nathan Banga and Caden Doyle each pocketed 14 for Fulton.

“We had to start fouling in the end,” said Fulton coach Dale Olson. “It was a good and very competitive game throughout. We only shot 21-for-40 from the charity stripe and that was the difference. We were 31 per cent from the field. We obviously played really tough or we wouldn’t have been in the game with those numbers. Duchess is a very good team, very similar to us.”

Landon Currie went 6-for-6 from the charity lane and finished with 18 points as Fulton grounded the George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country 69-54 Friday night. Doyle collected 17 points and Banga bagged a dozen. Fynn McCarthy dialed 16 points for the Coyotes.

Fulton is playing Westsyde in the consolation final at noon today. The Classic carries major sponsorship from Tim Hortons, Buy-Low Foods, Westwood Electric and DCT Trucking.

Westsyde parlayed 21 points from Spencer Ledoux into a 77-55 win over South Okanagan and then got 22 points from Nathan Strank in an 84-54 ambush of Similkameen.

In other Friday play, McCarthy recorded 35 points as the Coyotes outlasted the Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops 107-95.

Nic Lafontaine collected 17 points for the Coyotes, while Jacob Branch bagged 24 points for the Sabres. Jarrett Larsen nailed five treys and ended up with 21 points, while Chris Buchanan produced 16.

Banga drained 18 points as the Maroons upended Sa-Hali 85-41 Thursday afternoon.

Olson canned 15 points and Caden Doyle sank 14 for the Maroons, while Larsen registered 15 points for Sa-Hali.

In other Thursday games, Duchess Park got 25 points from Pearce as they dispatched the Coyotes 99-74. Soren Erricson rang up 22 points for the Condors, while McCarthy nailed 26 and Cody Hackl 21 for the Coyotes.

The Panthers toppled the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops 68-59 (no pointgetters supplied), while South Okanagan buzzed Similkameen 105-58.
