The Five Star Awards Rebels toppled the West Kelowna Warriors 3-1 Sunday to finish 2-2 in the Vernon Bantam In the Stix Hockey Classic at Civic Arena.

The Rebels prevailed 3-0 against the Kelowna Bruins in their tourney opener, but dropped both Saturday games, 11-2 and 5-2, to the Penticton Vees and Grand Forks Bruins respectively.

Rebel captain Maisun Ang-Hamilton put up four highlight-reel goals in the tourney, including a shortie and two winners. He twice set up teammates for tap-ins.

Sapion Joe showed exceptional hand-eye on his second goal of the tourney, batting in his own rebound. Caleb James also notched a pair and added a helper.

Defensive partners Robyn Alexis and Quinn Soon both scored on the same shift against Penticton. Cole Grevatt, Tyler Hamilton, Jayden Veit, and Joe provided assists.

Jakob Aeichele and Mason Bueckert shared the shutout against Kelowna, and combined to stop 109 pucks on the weekend.

MVP Awards went to Ang-Hamilton, Soon, and Bryce Lauer, while Hamilton, Morgan Martens, and Owen Swiscoski earned Heart & Hustle honours. Bailey Alexis and Braydon Beese also revved up the Rebels with their energetic play.

In Pee Wee Super League play, the Butcher Boys Devils brushed off the Sladen Moore Hurricanes 3-2 Saturday at Priest Valley Arena.

Devils’ goalie Kristi Vassberg was spectacular and received stellar defensive support.

Hunter Farrell provided 2+1, while Derek O’Callagham added a single for Butcher Boys with Farrell netting the winner.

The Corbett Office Plus Kings of Vernon went 2-2 with a short bench at the Wenatchee Midget Rec Apple Cup.

The Kings opened with a 3-0 loss to eventual champion Penticton before falling 2-1 to the Lewiston Lightning of Idaho. Brandon Lehoux tipped in a Liam Hennig point shot, for Vernon’s goal.

Craig Garnett was in net for the Kings and made several key saves and Lucas Towers and Sam White were solid on dee all weekend.

Game 3 saw the Corbett crew bounce Bremerton, Wa. 7-2 with Lehoux earning the energy player of the game scoring three times in the first half of the first period.

Hennig, assisted by Noah Cooper, on a power play, Aaron Botterill on a top-shelf breakaway snipe, and Cooper, off passes from Hennig and Jimmy Brodoway, completed the Vernon offence in front of Ethan Huizinga.

The Kings downed the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-1 in the consolation final.

Botterill pulled the hat trick, while Isaac White and Hennig added singles.

The Vernon Authentic Trophy & Plaque Hawks grounded the Winfield Bruins 6-2 and dispatched the Lakeside Printing Sting of Salmon Arm 9-2 in Midget Super League play.

Nick Mitchell set up linemate Sean Howard for a sweet breakaway goal at 26 seconds and finished with a hat trick as the Hawks upended the 1-13 Sting Sunday at PV Arena. The Hawks are 7-6-1.

Howard finished with 1+2, while singles went to Landen Harison, Sam Frisby, Austin Moore, Tiege Doughty and Cody Webb in support of a solid Dalton Stenberg.

Harison supplied the winner as the Hawks iced the host Bruins 5-2 Saturday night.

Frisby, Moore, Howard and Seb Wenger produced singles in front of a stellar Nick Maglio.

Waylen Stowards and Kohen Pounder each scored deuces as the North Okanagan White Knights doubled the Everton Ridge Homes Ice Army 6-3 in Atom action Saturday at Kal Tire Place.

Cody Collette and Aidan Wattie each counted singles.

The 100 Mile House Wranglers won the Lumby Stars Bantam-Midget Female Monashee Classic Tournament.

The Stars lost 7-0 to Kelowna early Saturday morning in their opener. Morgan Holland was game MVP with Shelby Richard,Emily Romailler and Josie Sexsmith earning the three stars.

Later, at the block of ice formerly known as the Pat Duke Memorial Arena, the Stars were fell 6-3 to Surrey. Josey Nerling pulled the hat trick, getting two solo snipes and one assisted by Taylor Cousins and Kim Whitelaw. Nerling (now going by the name Hatty McHatrick) rated MVP. Cousins, Mia Maltman and Kalen Webster were Lumby’s three stars.

The Stars bowed 14-1 to 100 Mile House Sunday morning with Whitelaw scoring from Cousins.

Goalie Tyra Cunningham worked hard as the game’s MVP. Jordyn Pryor, hired gun Emma Roine and Demi Williamson were the three stars.
