Runners set 800-m marks

Greater Vernon Athletics Park facility was abuzz with activity last Sunday afternoon as 32 athletes gathered under sunny skies for a sanctioned 800-metre track meet hosted by the Okanagan Running Club.

Heat 1 (runners seeded by personal best times) saw four male athletes break the two-minute barrier, with Ty Fuoco of Kamloops overall winner in 1:56.14.

He was followed closely by Rutland’s Davis Hughes-Geekie 1:56.68, and an exciting photo-finish (1:58.74) between Andrew Paul Morris (TRU WolfPack) and the ageless Ian Sharp (Okanagan Running Club).

Four female runners ran sub-2:40, with the top times posted by Hanneli Ladyman (Kamloops) in 2:29.59, Camille Galloway (UBC Heat) 2:32.29, Alanna Brittin (Revelstoke) 2:36.55, and Alison Burnett (TRU) 2:38.38.

In the women’s event: Alison Burnett  (Quadra Island) ran the track in 2:38 while Christa Miller (Vernon) ran 2:43. Both were personal bests.

All of the female runners posted sub-3:00 clockings, with Rachel Garrett clocking in at 2:42.39, Christa Miller 2:43.09, Kelsey Fillion 2:44.85, Brooke Lawlor 2:50.96, and “youngster” Tayla Ingram in 2:56.92.  Rounding out the results for males were Kurt Behnsen 2:02.44, Conlan Sprickerhoff 2:02.93, Tony Kiprop 2:08.70, Calum Carrigan 2:09.22, Brendan Boyd 2:11.05, Liam McGrath 2:11.70, Adam Smith 2:11.94, Logan Hwang 2:12.54, Alex Spice 2:14.23, Alex Hansen 2:15.62, Keagan Ingram 2:19.88, Sam Goodrich 2:21.37, Ali Alethany 2:22.26, Adam Bugera 2:22.51, Ty Wensley 2:23.25, and Stephan Kruger 2:26.67.
