Scott brushes off Eyamie

Kelly Scott of Kelowna stopped Lisa Eyamie of Calgary 11-4 (seven ends) Thursday afternoon in Vernon.

Former world champion Kelly Scott of Kelowna opened the $61,000 Prestige Hotels Curling Classic with an 11-4 win (seven ends) over Calgary’s Lisa Eyamie Thursday afternoon at the Vernon Curling Club.

Scott, who has Jeanna Schraeder at third and Sasha Carter and Sarah Wazney at front end, scored triples in the second, fourth and sixth ends. Eyamie, who made last year’s final, is supported by Maria Bushell at third, Jodi Marthaller at second and Valerie Hamende at lead.

In other women’s draws, Michele Jaggi of Switxzerland edged Vernon’s Robbi Kuhn 6-5, Heather Nedohin of Edmonton iced Sandra Jenkins of Salmon Arm 82 (six ends), Russia’s Anna Sidorova shaded Japan’s Ayumi Ogasawara 4-3, Chelsea Carey of Morden, Man. toppled Jennifer Schab of Calgary 5-2 and Crystal Webster of Calgary defeated Jiana Yilun of Krea 9-3 (seven ends).

There are women’s draws tonight at 5:00 and 8:00 with Friday action resuming at 8 a.m.

There are 32 women’s rinks and 16 men’s foursomes in the cashspiel. The first men’s draw goes Friday at 10:30 a.m.

The women’s final goes Sunday at 3 p.m., while the men’s final is Monday at 3 p.m. First prize on the women’s side is worth $9,000 with the runner-up claiming $6,500.
