Smoke show works for Kal Tire

The Kal Tire Smoke ousted the Cloverdale Paint Black Panthers 14-7 in Mosquito baseball playoff action Tuesday at Lakeview Park.

The Smoke kept the Black Panthers to only three runs after the third inning. The Smoke’s pitching staff consisted of Keira Braddick, Nolan Stiven, Horatio Andow and Austan Van Den Brand.

Andow and Van Den Brand both pitched scoreless innings and struck out nine, while Stiven pitched one inning and struck out two.

The Panthers’ pitching staff consisted of Owen Both, Chayse Brumpton, Ben Thompson and Reece Holmes. Brumpton struck out two over two innings of work and Holmes fanned three with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Holmes led the Panthers with two hits, two walks, one RBI and four runs, while Thompson went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Owen Both also chipped in with three walks and scored one run.

The Smoke were led by Erik Pastro, who went 4-for-4 with a double, two ribbies and three runs.

Andow was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs, Bryson Helmer was 1-for-1 with two walks, two RBI and two runs, and Kiera Braddick smacked a run-scoring single and scored after being walked. The Panthers are eliminated.
