Snowboarders bank slopestyle medals

A pair of Vernon snowboarders owned the podium at the season-opening B.C. Slopestyle Series last weekend at Big White.

A pair of Vernon snowboarders owned the podium at the season-opening B.C. Slopestyle Series last weekend at Big White.

Defending provincial champion Beau Pearson of Vernon continued his winning ways with first overall on Saturday with a scorching run of 33.1.

Rhett Haubrich, also of Vernon, picked up third spot with a 28.5.

Haubrich posted a 30.3 to win Sunday’s competition, edging out Pearson (28.1).

Both Vernon riders are members of the B.C. freestyle snowboard team and graduates of Silver Star’s freestyle team. The pair train out of Whistler and are looking to earn a spot on the national team. Both Pearson and Haubrich attended Vernon Secondary’s High Performance Program.
