Two volleyball tournaments down, two tournament victories for the Seaton Sonics,

Fane Trigg’s junior girls A squad, which earlier won the Seaquam tournament in Delta, ruled the Last Spike tournament in Revelstoke.

The Sonics defeated the Merritt Panthers 25-19, 25-15 in an almost anti-climactic championship match Saturday which followed a nail-biting semifinal as Seaton edged the Kal Lakers 17-25, 25-23, 18-16.

“We faced a very motivated Kal team,” said Triggs. “They outplayed us at every turn.”

The Lakers took the first set and an early lead in Game 2 before the Sonics pushed back to force the third and deciding game.

Kyra Olsen set up Gabby Triggs for a line kill for the final point that moved Seaton into the final.

The Sonics were undefeated in Revelstoke.

They beat the host Revelstoke Avalanche A team 25-18, 25-12, the Rutland Voodoos 25-5, 25-16 and King’s Christian Kings of Salmon Arm 25-8, 25-15 to win their pool.

This led to a cross-over match with the Sonics’ B team, which the A girls won 25-11, 25-15.

“The girls played very well all weekend and were able to convert digs into points, which is not an easy thing to do,” said Triggs.

Gabby Triggs and Maisa Orosz were hitting and passing machines for Seaton. Olsen was instrumental with her setting.

Marika Ternan, Megan Sherwood and Sarah Beka served consistently throughout the tournament, which included jump float serves from Sherwood and Beka.

Victoria Schneider, Jaden Barker and Beka were praised for their net play and contributing good hits while Jamie Nicholls swung hard and scored some good points.

Invermere’s David Thompson Secondary beat Kal 25-22, 25-23 in the bronze medal match.

The Sonics’ B squad went 2-1 in pool play, beating Revelstoke and Sa-Hali (Kamloops) in straight sets and losing in three to David Thompson (11-25, 25-16, 12-15).

Seaton beat the Fulton A team 2-1 (23-25, 25-19, 15-9) in their final game to finish tied for fifth.

“These girls showed real perseverance and solid skills this weekend,” said coach Aly Lypchuk, joined on the bench by Janelle Robertson. “Our serving in particular was excellent, with several players like Lanaya Bandy, Sophie McKenzie, Rebecca Haberstock and Rane Smith contributing long runs of serves in several sets.

“To have a young team do so well this early in the season is a real testament to their hard work.”

and is exciting for us as coaches.”
