Stanwood stellar as Smokies snuff Warriors

Trail Smoke Eaters outgun West Kelowna Warriors 3-1 in BCHL action Friday night at Cominco Arena.

The Trail Smoke Eaters were on a high as they entered Vernon to face the Vipers Saturday night at Wesbild Centre.

The Smokies got 35 saves from Lyndon Stanwood and a pair of goals by Jesse Knowler to brush back the West Kelowna Warriors 3-1 in B.C. Hockey League action Friday night at Cominco Arena.

Brent Baltus supplied the other goal for Trail (2-3), while former Viper Marcus Basara handled the offence for West Kelowna (2-1-0-1).

In other BCHL Interior action Friday night, the Penticton Vees got a goal and assist each from Sam Mellor and Michael Rebry as they pounded the host Salmon Arm SilverBacks 5-0 at the Shaw Centre.

Netminder Chad Katunar collected the shutout with 29 saves, improving the Vees to 4-1. The ‘Backs are 1-4.
