A fired-up Apple Bowl crowd watched a charged-up Okanagan Sun team take over sole possession of first place in the BC Football Conference on Saturday night.

The Sun jumped out to a 17-0 lead, then held off the Westshore Rebels 27-21 in a battle of the conference’s last two unbeaten teams.

Former Fulton Maroons standout Tye Kitzman had four tackles on defence for the undefeated Sun (3-0) while ex-Vernon Panthers star Zack Kronbauer had one kickoff return for no yards.

The pivotal play of the night came late in the second quarter with the Sun leading 10-0, when Raquiile Cespedes took a missed field goal and returned it 120 yards for a touchdown.

The Sun will return to action Saturday night when they host the Vancouver Island Raiders at the Apple Bowl. Kick off is at 7 p.m.

In Langley, the Rams improved to 2-1 by pounding the winless Kamloops Broncos 51-7.

The Rams outscored the Broncos 31-0 in the second half.

Former Maroon Broden Romanovitch caught one pas for three yards for the Broncos while, on defence, Vernon’s Lucas Hofer had three tackles, and Zac Hyer, Robbie Filice and Colton Gaudet chipped in one apiece.

The Broncos host Westshore Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Hillside Stadium.
