Defending champion Dan Swanson of Surrey followed his opening round of 3-under par 69 with a 70 Tuesday to defeat Kelowna’s Dean Claggett by two strokes and win the $12,000 PGA of B.C. Championship at the Richmond Country Club.

Swanson (Guildford Golf Course) was 1-over through 14 holes before shooting 4-under on the last four holes, highlighted with holing out from behind a tree on the par-4 15th hole for eagle to hold the overnight lead by one over Claggett (Two Eagles Golf Course & Academy).

Midway through the final round, Swanson rolled in a 40-foot putt on the par-3 ninth hole to take a two stroke lead over Claggett at 6-under par heading to the final nine.

A few holes later at the 13th, a two-shot swing resulted as Swanson bogeyed and Claggett birdied tying them for the lead heading to the final five holes.

Claggett’s birdie attempt from the fringe on 18 slid by, giving Swanson a chance to two-putt to win, but he coolly drained the 15-footer for birdie to win by two.

Swanson earned $2,400 with Claggett earning $1,650. Tsawassen Springs’ Murray Poje finished at 2-under to claim $1,100.

Vernon product Jesse Crowe (Canoe Creek) went 77-77-154 to place 11th and earn $450.
