Thunder roll Adanacs

Brodie MacDonald backstops Langley Thunder to Game 1 win over Coquitlam Adanacs in WLA final.

The Langley Thunder opened their Western Lacrosse Association title defence with a 7-3 win over the Coquitlam Adanacs in their best-of-seven championship series Sunday at the Langley Events Centre.

After trading singles in the opening period, the Thunder outscored the Adanacs 6-2 over the final two frames. Vernon’s Brodie MacDonald recorded 34 saves for the win, while Coquitlam netminder Nick Rose turned aside 52 shots.

Garrett Billings opened the scoring for Langley and finished with two goals and two assists. Joel McCready also notched a pair for the Thunder, while Brett Hickey, Rob Van Beek and Athan Iannucci each had one goal. Lewis Ratcliff chipped in with three helpers.

Ian Poole won 11 of the 13 draws.

Daryl Veltman, Jason Jones and Steve McKinlay handled Coquitlam’s offence.

Game 2 went Tuesday night at Coquitlam’s Poirier Sports Complex, with the third tilt slated for Thursday at the LEC.
