The Vernon U14B Thunder struck silver in the 22nd Annual West Coast Ringette Classic in Richmond last weekend.

Game captain Sadi Weed supplied 2+1 and Sam Shaw scored once as Vernon fell 6-3 to the Fraser Valley Hurricanes in Sunday’s matinee final at The Igloo.

Felicity Allen supplied a deuce for the Canes, who posted three wins and a tie in pool play. The Thunder went 3-1 in preliminary action, finishing third in the seven-team division.

Rhys Taylor-Hawes earned 4+2, while Brooklyn Tardiff added two goals as the Thunder opened with a 9-6 win over the Burnaby-New West Death Eaters.

Jasmine Horton, game MVP Sam Shaw and Weed produced singles. Game captain was Faith Reynolds.

Weed (2), Taylor-Hawes, Chloe Scabar and Horton handled the offence as Vernon stopped the PoCo Shock 6-5 in their second tilt. Sierra Lochhead wore the ‘C’ and Astrid Beaty was chosen MVP.

Vernon then clipped the Coquitlam/New Westminster Kodiaks 7-6 with Weed and Taylor-Hawes each netting deuces and singles going to Lochhead, Shaw and Horton. Tardiff fashioned three assists. Goalie Alecia Hughes was MVP.

The Thunder completed pool play by dispatching the Comox Currents 6-2 with Weed pulling the hat trick and singles coming from Shawm, Lochhead and Reynolds. Taylor-Hawes served as captain and Horton earned MVP.

Vernon reached the final by shading the VRA 5-4 with Lochhead and Weed each supplying deuces and Shaw getting one snipe. Scabar was the captain. Hughes was solid in net all weekend.

Meanwhile, the winter break did not affect the U12A Vernon Venom who slammed the Kelowna Spitfire 7-1 before icing the Kelowna U14s 6-1.

McKenna Jackson, Sydney Lewis and Kristen Francks each pocketed two goals in Saturday’s win over the Spitfire. Hillary Quiring opened the offence off a sweet feed by Caryss Hill, while Lewis broke a 1-1 deadlock early in the second half and later added insurance. Jordan Tung was in net.

Jackson, with a deuce, Francks, Sophia Bilodeau and Lewis rang up goals Sunday.

The Venom ride the winning double-dip into the Esso Golden Ring Tournament in Calgary this weekend.
