Round 1 of the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League playoffs gets underway tonight (7:30) as the Vernon Re/Max Tigers host the Armstrong Shamrocks at Wesbild Centre.
The best-of-five series shifts to Nor-Val Sports Centre for Game 2 Saturday in Armstrong. Game 3 goes Tuesday, July 10 at Wesbild, and if necessary, Games 4 and 5 would be Thursday, July 12 at Nor-Val and Saturday, July 14 at Wesbild respectively.
The Tigers are rolling into the post-season, going 6-0-1 in their last seven tilts to finish second overall at 8-6-2. However, they lost starting netminder Joel Fruncillo, who broke his thumb on the last weekend of the regular season. Vernon will be relying on Midget call-up keeper Tyler Landry and Trail’s Thomas Bella.
The Baby Rocks, who finished third at 6-8-2, have two of the top three TOJLL scorers in Brett Hawrys (46-38-84 in 13 games) and Owen Barker (21-29-50 in 11 games). The Cats’ Ryan Landels was second with 29-34-63 in 13 games.
