Tims shines in Stars’ net

Phil Fanfani, making his debut at striker, buried both of the Stars’ goals, scoring once on a breakaway, and again when his cross attempt redirected into the net off a Winfield player.

Netminder Ray Tims shut down the few chances Winfield generated to earn Man of the Match.

In other 55+ action, Kal Tire bowed 3-2 to Kelowna #1 at Mission 71 Fields.

Kal Tire newcomer Mike Lloyd introduced himself to his new team with a sprint down the left side, blistering a shot into the far corner for the game’s opening goal.

Kelowna responded and tied the game shortly after. At the 35-minute mark, Wayne Aason made a run to the corner flag and crossed a ball to striker Mark DeVolder, who headed it past the Kelowna keeper to give the tire men a 2-1 lead at the break.

Kelowna converted twice in the second half to secure the win.

Meanwhile, in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 2 action, the Sunterra Sista’s played to a 2-2 draw against North Okanagan United Tier 2 Thursday night at Marshall #4.

Andy Zubot and Jennie Currie handled the Sunterra attack.

On Marshall #2, Capri Insurance outlasted the Centerline Attack 1-0.

Dana Dimmick and Lisa Wright were solid in the Centreline net while their teammates adjusted to one another in a game situation.

“This is our first time out as a squad, we are still learning each other’s names and some of us haven’t played since Grade 7, so even some of the rules needed to be gently reminded to us by the referee,” said Centreline’s Kris Ponto.

Erika Jones showed heart in the Centreline back field, while Mandy Norwood and Julie Kentel looked steady at midfield.

The Rockets bowed 2-1 to the OMG Chickkickers on Marshall #5.

The newly formed Rockets needed the first half to start looking like a team, but the came together after the break, backstopped by netminder Jagger Clapp, and great sweeping by Nicole Macbain.
