Vernon Kal Tire is on pace to set a record for one-goal games in the Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League.

The Tiremen lost 2-1 to Executive Flooring/Enco of Kelowna Thursday night at Rutland Sports Field.

Enco (4-2-3) scored two in the first half on quick transitions after Kal Tire (1-6-2) had hit a post and a crossbar with no luck.

The turning point came when the Enco keeper took out Kal Tire striker Alberto Lopez as the last man back but only a yellow card was issued. After that, Kal Tire controlled the play into the second half with numerous chances. Damian Adams finally got Kal Tire on the board on a Lopez corner that Adams headed in.

Manchester Fish & Chips Man of the Match David Broadhurst flashed multiple controlling plays through the midfield for Kal Tire.

Mark Wasylyk pulled the hat trick and Kenny Rath added a deuce as the Silver Stars stuffed Kelowna Vintage 10-1 in 55+ play Thursday night at Rutland Sports Field.

Singles came from Kerry Zubot, Steve McCourt, who deliberately missed scoring again, rather than run up the score, John Matejicka, Mark Hopkins, on a beauty header off a Rath cross, and Mahmoud Abdel-Kadar. Rath played goal in the first half.

Roadrunner Roland Guebert scored three times as Soccer United Raiders of Kelowna grounded Vernon Kal Tire 4-2.

John Milne also tallied for the 5-3-1 Raiders, who led 2-0 at the recess. Tom Ouchi buried his own rebound after a save by Chris Turbitt, while White Spot Man of the Match Gordie Campbell ended a 10-year scoring drought with a 28-yard corker roof daddy, for the 3-6 Vernon goals.

In women’s Division 2 play, Sir Winston’s Attack tackled hard, hustled harder and finished with a 2-2 tie against the ultra-skilled Sunterra Homes Sistas at Marshall Field.

Olivia Comeau scored in the fifth minute, a lead that Sir Winston’s held for almost the entire first half thanks to goalkeeper Azra Cawley and the deadly defensive line of Brianna Thalheimer and Ashley Stragier.

Shawna Boyd played her hallmark game of calm control in the centre midfield, bolstered by some amazing drives down the line from defender-soon-to-be striker Marie Brau.

Latisha Baker and Andrea Zubot scored for the Sistas.

The Simply Delicious Rock Stars ambushed Collaborate Wellness 9-1 in other Division 2 play.

Kris Fuller and Mandy Burton bravely shared the Wellness goalkeeping, while Bryana Cole buried a long cross that skittled across the line for the Wellness goal.

Dairy Queen Lady of the Match for sportsmanship honours went to Nastalie Lussin for the Rock Stars and Cole.
