Tornadoes stir up fifth

The Vernon Tornadoes collected fifth place at the Under 15 Boys Super Volley Tournament last weekend in Kelowna.

The Tornadoes fell behind in their game against Air Attack Gold of Richmond, but showed tremendous composure earn the win in a tiebreaker.

After forcing a tiebreaking against the Apex Express, Vernon dropped its second game 2-1.

In their third match of the day, the Tornadoes fell two straight to the Kelowna Killbillies, leaving them in fourth place in their pool.

In crossover action, Vernon bowed 2-0 to first-place Fraser Valley Blue.

Vernon stayed alive in relegation play with a 2-1 win over Prince George, capped by a 15-13 third-set win.

In the fifth-place game, Vernon dominated Air Attack Black of Richmond to end the tourney on a high note.

Coached by Ron Lutzke and Rod Dubland, the Tornadoes include: Kristian Currie, Braydon Davis, Zac Dubland, Travis Hoogland, Erich Lutzke, Kenyon Neumann, Charles Odura, Jared Tong and Nolan Wiens.

In U16 boys action, the Vernon Vortex ranked 11th.

Coached by Nathan French and Dan Currie, the Vortex includes: Alex Baxter, Brayden Bouchard, Adam Ensing, Sam Koch, Mitchell Lacasse, Kuup Peters, Greg Poggemoeller and Uriah Stene.
