Two athletes from the Vernon AAA Track and Field Club had top-10 results at the recent Legion Canadian Track and Field Championships in Langley.
Hannah Bennison, coached by John Machuga, finished just out of the medals in fourth place in the 2,000 meters.
Bennison, who held the lead for much of the race, finished in a time of 6:25.29.
Armstrong’s Trinity Hansma finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 155 cm, equaling her personal best in her first appearance at a national championship event. She is coached by Ian Cameron.
“This championship has two age groups, U18 and U16. Both of these girls were competing in the U16 age group,” said Cameron, who was the jumps and combined events coach, and head coach, for Team B.C. at this event.
Both Hansma and Bennison had to qualify to compete in this meet by hitting a required height or time at a sanctioned meet during the track season.
