The Vernon United U14 boys lost 1-0 to the North Vancouver Surging Wild Torrent in the 2nd annual North Vancouver Football Club Invitational Soccer Tournament final Sunday.

Despite outplaying the Wild Torrent, United was unable to put one past the Torrent keeper who made several great saves, including a diving save on a Cameron Hitch penalty kick.

On Sunday morning, Vernon defeated the Tsawwassen Blues 2-1.

The back line of Jason Reich, Chase Larsen, Shayne Groeneveld, Jorden Dewing and Bryce Dyck played the offside trap to perfection, catching the Blues more than a dozen times.

The winning goal was scored by Zac Kronbauer, on a great passing play involving Dewing and Michael Williamson.

The Vernon boys, coached by Mike Melbourne, opened with a 2-1 win over the Wild Torrent with Kronbauer, Kody Glinsbockel, Ryan Killingsworth, Dyck and keeper Cole Shoemaker enjoying strong games.

In the Saturday afternoon match, United brushed back the Wesburn Storm of Burnaby 3-2. They easily outplayed the Storm but had difficulty finishing. Cole Woodliffe and Brandon Melbourne had strong games in the midfield.

Vernon opens their regular Thompson-Okanagan season on Sunday April 1 against Kelowna United.
