Vernon Tolko United lost 2-0 to Nelson in the Provincial B Cup Girls Under 16 Rep Soccer Championships final Sunday at Kings Park in Penticton.

In pool play, United finished 3-0 with wins over Prince George, Oak Bay from Victoria, and Coquitlam Metro Ford.

“I don’t think I could single out any individuals,” said Vernon coach Al Gee, assisted by Ley Christensen. “Our entire team played fantastic, our goal scorers scored, our midfielders won balls and orchestrated the attack, our back four defended magnificently and our keeper came up big a number of times.

“Ley and I are really proud of what these girls have accomplished, and I feel as though we are a team, in the true sense of the word.”

The U16 roster: Kate Allison, Alyssa Racine, Sydney Embleton, Jordan Butler, Danika Roy, Chelsea Rooseboom, Reagyn Shattock, Maja Splawinski, Shauna Bradley, Evan Koshere, Kalli Hamilton-Gee, Mason Christensen, Maddy Smith, Paige Latta, Jai Sidhu, Ali Holman and Olivia Weber-Concannon.

Vernon U15 girls received the Fair Play Award while placing sixth after losing 4-3 to Kootenay (Nelson)

Vernon went into the fifth-place game with only two subs due to injuries and gave up a late goal after Mariya Blades scored, assisted by Danica Ariano, to make it 1-0.

Kiera Correia buried a long shot to draw Vernon even at 2-2, while Bridgette Peterson scored off a corner for the 3-3 tally. Earlier, Vernon bowed 3-0 to Kelowna United with Sydney Bergman, Naudia Smith, Carly Southam and Emillia Durfeld all playing bold defensively.

Vernon rebounded by brushing back the Williams Lake Storm 3-1. Ariano, assisted by Jayden Strachan, Strachan from keeper Hailey Yablonski and Correia, set up by Blades, handled the offence. United then lost 3-0 to Powell River with Yablonski saving a penalty shot.
