Vernon United earned a silver medal in the Michael J. Smith Soccer Tournament Under 16 Boys Rep division last weekend.

More than 60 youth soccer teams from the Lower Mainland, Edmonton, Salt Spring Island, the Okanagan and Prince George competed in the tourney.

With a tournament record of 2-1-1, Vernon accumulated 18 goals for and five against, which was enough to squeeze pass South Burnaby for second spot in their competitive U16 boys grouping.

“Our boys put forward a great effort in all four games,” said Vernon United coach Guy Paulsen, assisted by Norm Kreutz. “The team has a super mix of attitude, skill and physical presence. It was a pleasure to coach them and we are all looking forward to next season.”

The rest of the United roster is: keeper Cole Shoemaker, Ben Aspenlieder, Matthew Kreutz, Nate Barendregt, Wade Buller, Liam Paulsen, Mike Bennett, Atley O’Neill, Matt Roberts, Dylan Wagner, Kurt Seiler, Braydon Davis, Frank Stewart, Ryan Killingsworth, Nathan Gatenby and Dylan Towns.

Later this month, the North Okanagan Youth Soccer Association (NOYSA) will be conducting their fall tryouts for the Rep program.
