Vernon BMX club members were among a field of more than 500 riders sweating it out in full gear under a scorching sun at the ABA Nationals No. 7 and 8 last weekend in Langley.
Competing in 30+ C weather, Mani Kawaguchi (Can-Rok Factory BMX) posted a pair of third-place showings in the A Pro division. Brenden Davies (Diablos/Yess/Nema) was sixth and Shanda Hill (Rancho Vignola) seventh.
In the 15-16 Mixed Open, Travis Sargent collected two bronze-medal results, and in the 15-16 Open, Nate Martin (Cyclepath/Wrecking Crew) had a fourth and a sixth.
Jeremy Deschamps collected a pair of bronze medals in the 13 Cruiser class, Mark Krahn was fifth in the 41-45 Cruiser, and Dean Bott (Krappweasel/Skyride Cycle/A&W) banked two silvers in the 46-50 group.
In the 26-30 Girls Cruiser, Shylo Orchard (Krappweasel/Skyride) struck double gold, and in the 14 Novice class, Sargent pocketed a silver and bronze.
Jonathan Milne earned a bronze and a fourth-place showing in 7 Intermediate racing, Riley Clark (Krappweasel) was fifth in both his 14 Intermediate races, and Tanner Brown was third and fourth in his 9 Expert races.
A pair of bronze-medal efforts was turned in by Brittany Luchene in the 13 Expert Girls division.
