Vernon Bombers slip past Kelowna

Vernon Newalta Bombers bounce Kelowna 4-3 in Tween B ringette play Sunday at Priest Valley Arena.

Miranda Chapple supplied two goals and an assist as the Vernon Newalta Bombers bounced Kelowna 4-3 in Tween B ringette play Sunday at Priest Valley Arena.

Jillian Pipke and Kyra Olsen also scored for the Bombers in support of Aliesha Smith, who was outstanding in goal. The defensive corps of Ellen Campbell, Chelsea McNabb, Carlie Newman and Giselle Torres was rock solid.

In Tween A play, Vernon used two goals from Courtney Bacon to power past Shuswap 7-2 Saturday.

Providing singles for the Tween A’s were Abby Williamson, Hailey Quiring, Alyssa Racine and the Carter girls, Emma and Alyssa, who also chipped in with an assist each. Evan Koshure also added a helper.

Maddie Fox, Wynter Vanderveen and Kalen Webster were solid in the defensive zone to help Caenen Wisse post the win.

The Vernon Junior A Adrenaline Rush skated to a 4-4 draw against the Shuswap Belle A’s Saturday.

Alex Drury, Kaitlyn Paulin, Hanna Popilchak and Saige Woodliffe handled the offence in front of netminder Garrett Adams.

In Petite action on Saturday, Ashly Shwaluk turned the hat trick as the DCT Chambers Roar stomped Kelowna 7-3.

Georgia Lannon (2+1), Emma Lochhead (1+2) and Julie Francis also got in on the offence. Amy Demetrick pitched in with two assists, while Sierra Lochhead and Chayse Krause were dynamite on defence in front of Brooklyn Ashby. Aimee Skinner and Makenna Jackson showed plenty of hustle in their Petite debuts.

The Advertising Works Victory spread out the offence to ground Kelowna 5-2 in Saturday afternoon action.

Kenzie Koshure, Grace Cornell, Brynn Koral, Jaden Scott and Kristin Ho contributed singles in a tight-checking game. Kaila Summerfelt was solid in earning the win.

In an all-Vernon Novice battle, the Ice Rockets soared past the Ice Dragons 9-4.

Backed by strong netminding by Jasmine Horton, the Rockets got hat tricks from Hillary Quiring and Makenna Jackson. Further offence came from Jordan Tung (2) and Kristin Francks (1+2). Aimee Skinner and Katrina Winstanley also had assists while Brooklyn Tardiff and Alicia Hughes played hard on defence.

The Dragons’ Shaila Austin set the tone with an unassisted goal less than two minutes in, while first-time tender Kierra Newman held her own. Amelia Johnson, Rhys Taylor-Hawes and Brooklyn Lewis completed the Dragon attack.

In Bunny action, the Vernon Speedy Sweeties caged the Kelowna Huskies 9-3.

Lauren Cooke, with the first of two snipes, opened Vernon’s account on a determined forecheck. Vernon controlled the play from that point on, with Taylor Hewitt collecting the hat trick, Taylor Stewart potting a deuce, and Lucia Manton and Zion White adding singles.

The Vernon Purple Flames suffered their first setback in a 6-5 loss to the West Kelowna Thunder Bunnies Sunday at Priest Valley.

Lynne Wiker’s Flames got two first-period goals from Teagan Schober, and one from Kennedy Jackson. Ava Dawn Hawrys and Sydney Lewis completed the attack in the second period.
