Hockey, speed, and ringette skates aren’t the only blades hitting local ice.

The Vernon Figure Skating Club’s (VFSC) 2023-24 season is now underway and registrations are still being accepted for all programs.

VFSC offers a wide range of skating programs for all ages providing the tools needed to progress in skating, including from learning to skate, developing figure skaters, hockey and ringette players looking to accelerate their skills, and competitive figure skating.

“Our professional coaches allow each skater to progress at their own rate while having fun,” said the club.

Programs include:

CANSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate program for boys and girls with a focus on fun, participation and basic skill development. Professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants, help skaters improve their basic skills, whether their focus is figure skating, hockey, ringette, speed skating or just skating for fun;

CANPower is a power skating program geared to hockey and ringette players that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. The program provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing hockey or ringette;

Teen Plus Skate is a program for skaters of all abilities. Each session will include a focus on power, agility and balance and the opportunity to get assistance from a coach. This is a perfect program for teen and adult skaters who want to try figure skating, improve their skating skills or just get out on the ice.

STARSkate – Primary, Intermediate, Senior, Competitive.

“Whether you are trying figure skating for the first time, looking to develop your skills or are an experienced skater hoping to compete, the Vernon Figure Skating has the program that will help you achieve your goals both on and off the ice,” said the club.

As a Skate Canada club, the Vernon group is proud to offer the STARSkate program for all levels of figure skaters.

Synchro or Synchronized Skating, is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow.
