Vernon Curling Club has successfully bid to host the 2015 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship.

The event, which will be televised on Sportsnet, is the top men’s curling event in the province and will attract curling fans from across BC.

The host committee of the event is looking to attract up to 8,000 curling fans to the city. The championship is scheduled to take place in early February (dates to be confirmed) of 2015.

Mark Longworth, a longtime curling volunteer in Vernon, will chair the event committee.

He said he is looking forward to the event. “We hosted the event in 2010 and 2011 and it was very successful. It provided great entertainment for the fans and was a great event to lead. We feel we have an excellent venue to attract up to 8,000 fans, with great lighting and sightlines. It just seems to be a great fit for Vernon,” he said.
