The inaugural Vernon Panthers’ high school football Grade 6/7 training camp for its feeder schools was a huge hit.

Team coaches, senior and junior players and three alumni now playing U-SPORTS for the University of Calgary Dinos were on hand Sunday, May 8, to offer instruction on an introduction to football.

The camp was open to players from BX, Hillview and Silver Star elementary schools.

“Our goal was to reach out to future football players that will be coming to VSS in Grade 8,” said camp spokesperson Rhonda Hove, who worked on organizing the camp along with Panthers Grade 12 player Roan Reid. “It was a huge success and will become an annual event.”

Hove said the camp was a great bonding event for the players, and an opportunity for community involvement and mentoring of young football players.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was updated Sunday, May 14, to correctly identify Roan Reid as a current Grade 12 student. We apologize for the error.
