Friday and Saturday evenings will be the best time to catch a Vernon Vipers game.
The B.C. Hockey League club has released its 2023-24 schedule. The team will play 26 home and 26 away games, plus two at the league showcase event, which will be held Oct. 22-26 in Seattle, in partnership with the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken.
Vernon will play 11 home games on Friday evenings (7 p.m. starts) and 10 home dates on Saturdays (all but one are 6 p.m. starts - March 2 vs West Kelowna Warriors will start at 7 p.m.).
Opening night across the league will be Friday, Sept. 22, with the Vipers beginning on the road in Salmon Arm against the Silverbacks.
The Snakes will play their home opener the following evening, Saturday, Sept. 23, against the Cranbrook Bucks.
The Vipers will have three mid-week home dates – Wednesday, Nov. 1, vs Cranbrook; Wednesday, Nov. 29, vs West Kelowna; and Tuesday, Dec. 12, vs Salmon Arm. Those games will start at 7 p.m.
There will be two Sunday afternoon contests – Dec. 31, vs the Penticton Vees; and Family Day Monday, Feb. 19, vs Cranbrook. Both of those contests will begin at 2 p.m.
Vernon will play four home games against Coastal Conference opponents, all after the Christmas break. The Vipers entertain the Coquitlam Express Jan. 13 (6 p.m.); the reigning conference champion Alberni Valley Bulldogs March 15 (7 p.m.); the Nanaimo Clippers are in town the following evening March 16 (6 p.m.); and the Snakes will take on the Powell River Kings in their final regular-season home date March 30 (6 p.m.).
The season ends March 31 and the playoffs will start April 5.
