Forget swimming lessons or summer sports camps. Vernon’s Ryan Vest, 10, is instead competing with the world’s best in a pair of amateur golf tournaments.

The Silver Star Elementary student tees off Thursday in the  U.S. Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. There are three rounds.

Vest will play on a different course – there are eight tracks – each day. He placed 30th overall last year.

From Pinehurst, Vest heads to Dupont, Wash. for round 2 of the U.S. Pitch and Putt Championships. He finished second in round 1.

Vest is ranked No. 1 in the Pee Wee (12 and Under) Division of the Maple Leaf Junior Tour after placing third in the 54-hole tournament which finished Wednesday at the Northview Golf Course in Surrey,

Luke Quanson, 12, made the trip from Edmonton worth his while by winning the title with solid scores of 73, 70, 83 (226).

Benjamin Kang, 12, of Vancouver,was second with scores of 76, 73, 81 (230) and Vest counted 75-77-82-234.

The Maple Leaf Tour hits Predator Ridge Golf Resort Aug. 22-23.
