Vernon’s Ryan Vest placed second in the Pee Wee Division of the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour Ford Series at Hazelmere Golf Club in Surrey,

Vest, nine, carded a 72 Tuesday in the rain after shooting an 85 Monday in a major storm to finish at 157.

Brycen Ko, 12, of Richmond, fired a fantastic final round 68 to win his fourth MJT Pee Wee Boys title this season (80-68-148).

Ten-year-old Cooper Humphreys, of Lions Bay, placed third in the division at 85-77-162.

Vest took awards for the Mr. Lube long drive and Sligo closest-to-the-pin.

Marcus Brown of Surrey ended his junior career and six-year stint on the Maple Leaf Tour in style by firing 71-72-143 to win low overall.

Brown, who is now off to play NCAA Division 2 golf on scholarship at Simon Fraser University, cited a tournament highlight as his eagle on the fifth hole.

“I feel absolutely splendid. This is my last junior tournament and I love the MJT with all my heart,” said Brown.

Next for Vest is the 25th Hillview City and Club Junior Tuesday with tee times starting at 10 a.m.

 

Hillview members pay $20 for 18 holes, while non-members are charged $30. Players receive a meal and prizes. Enter at the pro shop by Sunday.
