Dust devil swirls up into Lake Country sky

The dust devil was caught at Jack Seaton Park on June 4

Several parkgoers in Lake Country caught a small whirlwind phenomenon on June 4 in Lake Country.

A dust devil spiralled up into the sky at Jack Seaton Park and lasted for about three or four minutes Sunday afternoon.

Both a family who was enjoying the park and another woman nearby caught the action on video and shared it on Facebook.

Something you don’t see often! Serious dust devil at Jack Seaton Park! Saw it start, ran in the house to get my phone and was lucky to catch some of it before it ended,” said Doreen.

A dust devil is a strong, well-formed, and relatively short-lived whirlwind. It ranges in size from half a metre wide and a few metres tall or even larger at more than 10 metres wide and more than one km tall.
