Pampered pups take over Kelowna for Kennel Club competition

Members of the public are invited to check out the event being held at the Apple Bowl stadium from May 17-20

While the weather was not perfect, the dogs sure were on the first day of the annual Kelowna Kennel Club show.

Pups of all shapes and sizes and their paw-rents gathered on the field beside Kelowna’s Apple Bowl Stadium for the first day of competition on May 17.

The four-day event will conclude on May 20.

While rain on Friday afternoon did wet some well-groomed coats, it did not dampen the mood.

Pups were eager to show off their skills in the obedience and scent detection competition and could hardly wait to prance around the show ring.

The kennel club is putting on a variety of events over the weekend for a diverse range of dogs.

Some pure-bred dogs at the event are hoping to gain points towards achieving the prestigious ‘champion status,’ while others are at the event for a fun learning opportunity.

Outside of the show ring, dogs are competing in scent detection and obedience events, which are open to pups of all breeds and mixes.

Dogs and their owners alike see the show as an opportunity to come together, socialize and share knowledge.

Some dogs, like seven year-old golden retriever Chase are veterans and are unfazed by the busy event. Chase even found time for a quick nap between events right in the middle of the field.

Others, like one and a half year-old miniature bull-terrier Sobble found the event quite exciting and couldn’t wait to get back in the ring.
