Shelley McDonald wants you to seize the day. With wine.

Her company, Carpe D’Wine, is a twist on the typical wine tour. Instead of visiting the wineries via wheels and feet, you are instead whisked away onto a cruise on beautiful Okanagan Lake to taste the terpenes on the water.

Myself, along with other members of the media and local businesses, were given the opportunity to take a ride in the Spirit of the Okanagan houseboat on June 29.

The tour started with a glass of sparking bubbly, I Do, from Intrigue Wines prior to boarding. It was subsequently paired with a Cabernet Merlot while on the water.

Guests then had the chance to munch on fresh fruit, then a delectable charcuterie spread, put together by Mediterranean Market. The finishing touches were some divine cupcakes from Sweet Caroline’s.

“All of my wines are local, my charcuterie is local, as is all the art onboard” said McDonald. “We do six flights of wine and pair it with food.”

Guests can book experiences by visiting carpedwine.com. Up to 33 guests at a time can fit on the boat, for three hour cruises.

“Unlike Gilligan’s Island, we do not get shipwrecked,” McDonald explained. “Although some people might want to as it’s an incredible experience.”

In addition, five per cent of all proceeds will go to support the SPCA.

“I do anniversaries, birthdays, bachelorettes, graduations, bachelor parties and we are dog friendly.”

Carpe Diem!
