Cyr snipes OT winner as Vipers ground ‘Backs

Colton Cyr scored in the first OT period to give the Vernon Vipers a 4-3 win over the Salmon Arm SilverBacks Friday night at Wesbild Centre.

Colton Cyr collected the overtime winner with a quick shot from in close to give the Vernon Vipers a 4-3 B.C. Hockey League win over the Salmon Arm SilverBacks Friday night at Wesbild Centre.

Vernon dominated the ‘Backs in the first period, and were rewarded with 20 seconds left in the frame on a goal by Adam Tambellini.

After a scoreless second period, the SilverBacks converted twice on the powerplay, once by Travis Stephens and the other courtesy of second star Myles McAuley.

Mike Zalewski looked to have things sewn up his goal with just over a minute to play, but McAuley forced OT with Salmon Arm’s third man-advantage goal with 21 second remaining in regulation.
