Lyles signs with Riverhawks

Vernon Viper defenceman Malcolm Lyles has committed to play for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Riverhawks for the 2011-2012 NCAA season.

Vernon Viper defenceman Malcolm Lyles has committed to play for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Riverhawks for the 2011-2012 NCAA season.

The Riverhawks play in Hockey East which also includes Lyles’ former team, the Boston College Eagles. Patrick Cey, a former Viper, also plays for the Riverhawks and was recently named Hockey East player of the week.

“Malcolm has steadily improved throughout the season and has become one of the premier defenceman in the league,” said Vipers’ head coach Mark Ferner. “His skating ability and strength are among the best in the BCHL. His style of play has made him a fan favourite.”

Lyles, 20, hails from Miami Gardens, Fla. Through 46 games, he has six goals and 23 points.
