Second period deflections by forwards Shane Danyluk and Thomas Plese, and 31 saves from goalie Angus Redmond, were enough to lift the visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks to a 3-0 win over the Vernon Vipers in BCHL action Friday night.

The tilt between the two arch-rivals drew 2,408 fans to Kal Tire Place. The teams finish the back end of a home-and-home set Saturday night at the Shaw Centre.

Taylor Maruya scored with less than three minutes left to round out the scoring for the Silverbacks, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Vipers, who outshot Salmon Arm 31-22, including 11-3 in the final frame, had a modest two-game winning streak stopped, but it was also the Snakes’ first home-ice loss in 10 games.
