Centre Pearce Eviston scored twice and set up another as the Vernon Vipers grounded the Chilliwack Chiefs 5-1 Saturday night before 1,300 B.C. Hockey League fans at Wesbild Centre.

Adam Tambellini, with 1+2, TJ Dumonceaux and Jedd Soleway also scored for the Vipers, who moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Interior Division at 4-7-0-5, two points ahead of the Salmon Arm SilverBacks, 5-2 losers to the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Austin Smith was rock-solid in a 30-save performance for the Vipers, who matched the gritty and rugged Chiefs hit for hit all night in what was their best 60 minutes of the season.

Rookie Logan Mick drew two assists and was highly physical playing alongside Eviston and Tambellini.

Shay Laurent replied for the Chiefs (10-4-1-1), who fell out of first place since the Prince George Spruce Kings clipped the West Kelowna Warriors 4-3 in overtime.
