Armstrong is showcasing its greener side prior to Earth Day.

The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Environmental Trust hosts the sixth annual Green Fair Saturday (the day before Earth Day) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Askew’s Foods.

There is still room for any local corporation, small green company or true organic grower wanting to participate. Anyone interested can e-mail dderbowka@prsi.ca.

Presently, there are 19 participants who will feature sustainability, ideas, products and services. The Boy Scouts will also be helping out at the event, which is sponsored by Askew’s Foods.

The market event will also help send more local students to university and bring about a green economy faster.

ASET raises funds to give bursaries to students involved in environmental studies at the post-secondary level. Since 2002, $11,000 has been awarded to students.

“As chair of a “thinking globally and acting locally” group of caring citizens, I believe those young people out there who want to make a difference need some help,” said David Derbowka, ASET chairperson.

“Education is one venue to give them the opportunity they may seek.”

This year out of twelve applicants, one and possibly two recipients will be chosen.
