Bollywood Bang was a major success.
The recent event raised $48,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Upper Room Mission.
“The generosity of people never ceases to amaze me,” said Dalvir Nahal, organizer of the event sponsored by the Guru Nanak Seva Society.
“We are bridging gaps between communities and cultures as well as raising money.”
The funds will help the Canadian Mental Heallth Association enhance its kitchen program while the Upper Room Mission can maintain its food program.
“The true beneficiaries are those served whose lives are compromised through mental illness and or substance misuse or other misfortune,” said Nahal.
“They are able to eat a healthy meal and enjoy social connections in a safe environment.”
Bollywood Bang has been held three times since 2013 and it has raised a total of $108,000. Funds previously went to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.
“Part of the Sikh philosophy is to give back to the community, with either time, goods or money and through the Guru Nanak Society that’s exactly what we have been doing,” said Nahal.
