The renowned Caravan Farm Theatre in Spallumcheen has just been selected for a significant Stewardship.
The Theatre has become the 125th Wildlife Habitat Steward with the Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship Society (OSS).
“Caravan Farm Theatre’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the opportunity for on-site community engagement makes them a perfect fit for this program,” said OSS executive director Alyson Skinner. “We are thrilled to see them using their platform to promote conservation and inspire action.”
This partnership solidifies the Theatre’s longstanding dedication to conservation. In addition, their ongoing partnership with bee farmers exemplify their commitment to protecting pollinators and indigenous plant species.
The OSS is a charitable environmental organization dedicated to supporting local stewards and communities in stewardship, conservation and restoration of important wildlife habitats. Their wildlife steward initiative encourages individuals and organizations to take care of the wildlife habitats on their own properties.
Through the program, OSS supports their Stewards in taking care of an impressive 6,276 acres of vital wildlife habitat across the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys.
“We partner with landowners in our region who are committed to caring for wildlife habitats on their properties, many of whom also operate land-based businesses like ranches, orchards, farms, and vineyards,” said Skinner.
This collaboration gives residents the opportunity to integrate wildlife conservation into their ongoing practices. Given that a significant portion of land in the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys is privately owned, Wildlife Habitat Stewards play a crucial role as caretakers of significant wildlife habitats in the region.
Established in 1978, the Caravan Farm Theatre is a professional outdoor theatre company based on an 80 acre farm in the North Okanagan.
