City hosts participation training classes

International Association for Public Participation’s Foundations in Public Participation training held in Vernon

North Okanagan groups and residents can learn how to interact with the community.

The City of Vernon is hosting two sessions of the International Association for Public Participation’s Foundations in Public Participation training.

“If you are someone just starting out in public participation, or a seasoned veteran, you will find value in this professional development opportunity,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, the city’s communications officer.

“This program provides practitioners with the structure, techniques and knowledge required for success in today’s rapidly changing public engagement landscape.

The Planning for Effective Public Participation session will be offered Nov. 23 to 25 and the Techniques for Effective Public Participation session will be offered Feb. 16 to 17.

Training is being delivered by the Canadian Trainers Collective.

“You’ll leave with a wealth of reference materials, tip sheets, and a process to pick the appropriate techniques to meet your objectives,” said Laing Gahr.

The cost for the five-day course is $1,900 for early-bird registration prior to Sept. 16, and $2,100 for regular registration.
