A calming cruise along the Okanagan Rail Trail will cycle funds for military, first responders and their families struggling with mental health.

Wounded Warriors Canada, a national service provider, is hosting a fundraising bike ride on Saturday, May 11 starting at 10 a.m. at the Coldstream Station parking lot next to Sun Country Cycle.

“The two-hour casual ride will follow the Okanagan Rail Trail south to Kekuli Bay and back,” said Bob Harding, who is hosting the ride. “All cyclists, including e-bikers are welcome.”

All proceeds go directly to the charity, and donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

Harding will be participating in the Battlefield Bike Ride (BBR24) in Normandy, France in June as part of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings .

“The BBR24 group will cycle 450 kilometers over six day while visiting important battlefields and cemeteries to honour Canadians who served,” said Harding, who will be honouring the sacrifice of his uncle, a gunnery sergeant killed in action during the liberation of the city of Caen, by placing a wreath on his gravesite in the Beny-Sur-Mer Canadian war cemetery just south of Juno beach.

The motto of the Wounded Warriors Canada charity is: Honour the fallen and help the living.
