At 82, Marvin Zwarych is still gathering pledges.

Each year, B.C. Bowls For Kids asks all bowlers to collect pledges for Variety - The Children’s Charity, and a cheques is presented to Variety at its annual Show of Hearts on Global B.C. in February.

A cheque for $61,000 was presented to Variety in 2016 from all the bowlers in the province who collected the pledges.

The grand total over 30 years is nearly $3 million.

“Last year, I collected $9,000 and it was the second-highest bowler collector total in B.C.,” said Zwarych.

“My grand total collected for the past 12 years is $60,430.”

Zwarych was presented the Colleen Wood Fundraising Award from Variety in 2014.

“I’m very proud of that,” he said.

Zwarych hopes the community would consider making a donation toward this very important and worthwhile cause for children in Vernon and B.C. who have special needs and are supported by Variety.

Zwarych’s deadline for handing in pledges collected is Jan. 31.

If you would like to participate, make a cheque payable to Lincoln Lanes (Vernon bowling centre) and drop the cheque off at the lanes (25th Avenue).

You can also donate online with a credit card at http://bit.ly/marv2017.
