O’Keefe Ranch’s corn maze opens this Saturday after a two-week delay from the wet spring.
“The staff and volunteers work thousands of hours for months on end to make the corn maze happen,” said General Manager Glen Taylor.
Taylor said the heat helped with the corn growth and now the maze is ready for people of all ages to find their way through the two and a half acre maze that includes trivia questions to guide them through the twists and turns.
The maze will be open during special events including the Family Fun Days on July 23 to Aug. 20, and the Night Time Corn Maze and Corn Roast on Aug. 5, 12, and 19.
When the Ranch closes for the season, their second and third mazes will open for Family Daze in the Corn Maze on the weekends in October and the annual Halloween Field of Screams event.
“It’s become a hugely popular activity for families and we intend to make it bigger and better every year,” said Taylor.
Corn maze events are instrumental to O’Keefe Ranch’s operational costs, and in 2016, 14,000 visitors that walked through the maze inadvertently contributed to the largest fundraising event for the Ranch.
“It’s a fantastic event that combines agriculture with arts and culture, there’s nothing else like it available in the Okanagan,” said Taylor.
The maze will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in July and August, and then the time will change to 5 p.m. until about mid-September when it’s time for the corn to be harvested.
