Bathroom facilities at one of Kindale Developmental Association’s facilities are being improved, thanks to a donation from the Kalamalka Rotary Club.
B Elliott and Cindy Masters with Kindale accepted a cheque for $5,040 from Kal Rotary donation committee member Calvin Hoy which will improve bathrooms at Kindale’s Seaton Centre on Polson Drive in Vernon.
The money was raised from the annual Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction.
“The dream auction is delighted to be able to support Kindale as they provide a valuable service to the region,” said Hoy.
Renovations will include an expanded bathroom with a study ceiling tracking lift system so that people with mobility challenges can be safely and sensitively transferred from wheelchairs.
“Kindale is pleased to have received this contribution from the Kalamalka Rotary Club,” said Elliott. “The renovations will make life so much easier for the people we serve.”
The Seaton Centre is a hub for activities focused on people with diverse abilities. When the centre was built in 1993, the facility was considered spacious and modern. As the people Kindale serves have changed, limitations with the current building have been realized.
“The most urgent need is the bathroom renovation that will provide an enlarged space in which to locate an adjustable change table,” said Elliott. “This will ensure that the people Kindale serves are cared for safely and comfortably.”
Over the past 31 years, the Kalamalka Rotary Club has raised more than $3.3 million which has been donated to various charities and not-for-profit organizations.
