The Sun Valley Cruise-In car show returns to Vernon after a brief hiatus with a big weekend full of activities July 15 to 17.

A once-popular Vernon car show is making a big return.

The Sun Valley Cruise-In returns after a hiatus for a full weekend event in July.

“The Cruise-In ran in Vernon for 13 years before event volunteers ran out of gas,” said event spokesperson Andy Freeland.

The show returns to the streets of Vernon and to Polson Park the weekend of July 15 to 17.

The event will kick off with a downtown car show on 30th Avenue July 15 from 4 to 9 p.m. The band Shades of Grey will provide live music.

The main show is on Saturday in Polson Park with a cash prize for show participants growing to almost $5,000.

On Saturday evening, there will be an old time hot summer’s night cruise-in at a local hotel and pub. There will be designated and secure parking for all show cars and cruisers, and the band Linus will be providing live music within The Green pub at the Village Green Hotel.

On July 17 at 10:30 a.m., show cars will gather and head on a cruise-out.

The cruise-in already has registrations from as far as Williams Lake, Sylvan Lake, Vancouver, and Saskatchewan.

“We look forward to a fun-filled weekend,” said Freeland.

In the past, the show has hosted up to 450 vehicles from across Western Canada and the U.S., with more than 8,000 spectators on show day.
