It was moto mania at Silver Star Mountain Resort this past weekend.

Only one week after the non-motorized two wheel activity wrapped up, the resort hosted almost 200 dirt bike racers along with their families.

Organizes Andrew Christianson and Kyle Phulmann, their volunteers and  the Silver Star Bike Park crew put on what many described as the, “best race of the season and a must do race for next year.”

Riders from B.C. and Alberta participated in the Enduro Cross (EX) Saturday and the Hare Scrambles (HS) Race Sunday. EX is a short track form of speed racing requiring the riders to negotiate extreme obstacles including rocks, logs, car tires and large loader tires to name a few. The HS was a 25-kilometre loop involving high speed cat track sections intertwined with tight difficult single track trails along with the EX track. Spectators were treated to front row seats at each of these events along with Trials riding demonstrations by Sam King and Tino Marin.

“Tino Marin won the National Trials Championships (West), taking first place in the expert category in Revelstoke earlier this month,” said Kristy Jahn-Smith, Silver Star marketing manager, of the rider.

Even non-enthusiasts were thrilled by all of the trials stunts, the EX intensity and the HS speed and endurance.

“Riders as young as 13 competed in the junior class while the oldest in attendance was 78-year-old Al Perrett from Kamloops who took part in the Legends Class,” said David Chambers, Silver Star Dirt Bike Club promotions co-ordinator.

“Al being a true legend with his long and storied history of international dirt bike racing.”

The winners of Saturday’s EX races were Bobby Prochnau in the A group, his fiancé Chantelle Bykerk in the expert women, and Cam Roberge in the B group. In Sunday’s HS race Prochnau and Bykerk repeated their dominance with wins in the pro class and the expert women.

Results for all of the classes, photos and videos of the event can be found at PNWMA on Facebook.
